The Wood Devise

model: Luna Devise
location: The Inn on Ferry Street, Detroit, MI

I think I need to stop using puns when coming up with titles. Anyway, we loved the wood posts on the corners of the bed. They begged to be played with.

daviddelara.com version 1.1

It’s been about a month since I launched the new site and it has already received its first major revision. I made some changes to the navigation with drop down menus and also created several new pages for the services and shop sections. The idea was to make everything a bit more efficient and easier for you, the visitor, to get to the content and information you want. Here are a couple of highlights:

  • The Photo Sessions page has been greatly expanded. I’ve outlined several photo packages that I offer to models for photo shoots. I’m booking for March and April. So contact me soon to get your session in.
  • It’s quicker and easier for you to order Art & Photo prints directly from me. Choose the size of the print, enter the title of the piece you want and select the paper type. Then you can check out with PayPal.

I’m always creating new art but this website is another constantly ongoing project. I want it to be the best it can be for my fans, customers, and clients. If anybody runs into problems or has suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Art Flashback: The Tragic

from 2004: “The Tragic”
acrylic on 24″x30″ canvas

I sold a print of this earlier this week and that’s what made me take a look at “The Tragic” again. Although it’s six years old, this is one piece that stands the test of time. I think I should take her out of storage in the studio and show her again soon.

The Collar Devise

model: Luna Devise
location: The Inn on Ferry Street, Detroit, MI

Another shot from my shoot in February with Luna Devise. That collar is part of  matching set of cuffs. They are just the cutest things and I had to get them, much like the bunny hood from my last post. They stood out when I spotted them in the shop. Something that’s white, frilly, and has has little red roses was really different than almost everything else that was black leather.

Lounging Bunny

location: The Inn on Ferry Street, Detroit, MI

This photo is a part of our “Lounging Bunny” photo set on Zivity. Trial members and subscribers can view it here.

The bunny hood is one of my favorite accessories to use for photo shoots. It’s bizarre, creepy, and just plain cute. I got it early last year when I was visiting New York. I was wandering around lower Manhattan looking for things to do when I spotted The Museum of Sex on the Google maps on my phone. So I paid the museum a visit and that’s when I saw the bunny hood in their gift shop. It was one of those things I couldn’t resist buying. Ever since then I’ve used it maybe five or six times during photo shoots. Each time it gives the shots a very unique character.

First Thursday at Stella Blue

Thursday, March 3, 2011 6 – 8 pm
Stella Blue Boutique & Salon
1204 South Congress Ave, Austin, TX

Those who live in Austin know all about the First Thursday events that take place on South Congress Avenue. It’s basically a street party where the local businesses stay open late, artisans are out selling their ware, and there’s all sorts of musicians and other performers wandering about. I have many of my paintings on display at Stella Blue and I’ll be out this Thursday. Those of you who are in the area should come by to see a few of my recent works and some old favorites, browse the boutique, and enjoy some drinks, light appetizers, and music.

Devised

“Devised”
graphite on 10″x20″ museum board

This was inspired by a recent photo shoot. It’s also what happens when I’m working on images from said photo shoot for too long, then wander about the house for a bit before spotting the full sized mannequin I keep in the art studio. This is how ideas are formed in my head sometimes.

Champagne by the Window

model: Carlotta Champagne
location: The Inn on Ferry Street, Detroit, MI

I’ve had the chance to work with Carlotta four times. Twice when she was passing through Austin, once when we were both in L.A., and now when we were both in Detroit. Working with her never disappoints because we always end up with good photos.
