At Ease #3

model: Annalee Belle

This photo shoot was what made me break down and buy an iPad. I wanted her to hold a video of herself and the iPad was the easiest and most practical way to do it. I soon discovered that it’s a pretty nice device. I already had an iPhone and a laptop, so I never felt like I needed one. After spending some time with it, the Kool-Aid worked again. I wonder what else I’ve been wrong about because I haven’t given it a chance.

Black Gives Way to Blue

model: Franccesca de Struct

Some people think I can be unapproachable. Franccesca contacted me about doing a photo shoot with the subject line “Here’s a shot in the dark”. Sure, I prefer doing work for money since this is my livelihood, but that’s not all I care about. If I did, I might make my work more appropriate for all audiences. However, I care more about creating striking imagery I can believe in.

I started off doing photo shoots on a trade basis to build up a portfolio and develop my skills. Now I promote my photography services and am available for hire. Still, there are times I’ll work with a model for free if I really feel like I can do some good work with them. All they have to do is get in touch with me.

The Holiday Pole

model: Ruby Joule

Today is Festivus. Last year I broke with tradition and decorated the pole with lights. Then Miss Ruby Joule came over to play on it. It was a Festivus miracle!

Midwinter's Night

model: Lauren WK

Since today is the Winter Soltice and it’s the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere, I figured this photo from my last shoot with Lauren would be a good fit.

At Ease #2

model: Annalee Belle

The whole idea behind the “At Ease” session was to have an interaction between the model and herself. I liked the visual of seeing a blurry, out of focus image of her face as she held the video in front of her head. If I were to overanalyze it (as I think I’m doing right now), this toys with the idea that we don’t know anybody at first. Who they are begins to come into focus as we spend more time with them.

If you haven’t seen the video of “At Ease”, it’s featured in the video gallery.

The Executioner

model: Franccesca de Struct

I purchased this mask when I was in New Orleans a couple of months ago. It caught my eye as I walked passed the shop and I had to go in and get it. I like to have all sorts of random things I can use for photo shoots. When Franccesca contacted me about doing a shoot I figured she would be a perfect model for it.

Untamed

“Untamed”
graphite & coffee on 11″x14″ paper

Here is another coffee toned drawing. The thing about using coffee is that I can only use it after I’ve brewed a batch. That means I can only paint with whatever’s left in the morning. At least I know I won’t be drowsy when I start to work.

At Ease

I like to experiment with video every now and again. I had a rough idea for the concept based on a few shots I wanted to get. While shooting, the story evolved and I think it turned out beautiful and provocative. It’s not every day I get make something that has some highly elaborate references to masturbation and cunninglingus without being pornographic.

As a bonus, since this was a video and photo shoot, here is another photo of Annalee Belle.

Bare Pistol

“Bare Pistol”
digital photo manipulation (Adobe Photoshop & Corel Painter)
model: Mandie Pistol

Part photograph, part drawing and digital painting. I’m happy with the results, but the effect is so subtle, you’d think I didn’t spend an entire afternoon working on it. Maybe the trick to having people think you’re talented is letting them think you barely had to work at all. *shrugs*

Blind Pleasure

model: Annalee Belle

This shoot was a combination of photography and video. I’m still putting together the video and will be posting these still photos first.
